Visiting Invisible Children
Invisible Children is a non-profit organization that works tirelessly and ingeniously toward bettering the lives and spreading the awareness of the longest lasting war in East and Central Africa. Using the outstanding capabilities of media, IC strives to share the vision of ending the invisible war in Africa – a conflict that affects the daily lives of African citizens, young and old. IC has an inspiring way of using story-telling and film production to reach out to others with the stories of the war subjects themselves. With their strong compassion for the international community, IC strives to reach out and encourage young citizens to join the movement, stand for justice and work for the betterment of the world at large.
On Monday, the 31 Bits team had the opportunity to check out the Invisible Children headquarters in downtown San Diego – the main office where all the magic behind IC takes place. Stepping foot into the offices at IC was inspiring, especially seeing the manpower of the staff and interns working creatively on the current and future IC projects. Captured by the walls covered in striking photos and art depicting the war-affected population of Africa and astounded by the accomplishments and goals of IC, the feeling of being behind the scenes of such a successful and impacting organization is hard to describe. We were taken on an entertaining tour around the IC headquarters, coming face to face with the various uplifting development plans and how they are conducted.
We learned all about the number of projects that IC has established in Uganda and Congo such as Schools for Schools, Mend, the Bracelet Campaign, and other programs they have established to provide opportunity, hope, and a sense of the community to the people of Africa. It is difficult to do justice to IC’s incredible movement and growth in just a few short paragraphs. With their limitless enthusiasm and drive to change lives, IC is an organization whose movement truly brings the idea of “activism” to a whole new level.
This organization has a brilliant way of using creativity, passion, entrepreneurship, human relations, and communication to fuel the movement and continue developing not only as a renowned organization, but also as an extraordinary cause.
