The California Guide from The Est. CA Girls

While not all of the 31 Bits founders are California natives, we have a deep love for the golden state! This is where we all met, after all, and we can’t think of anywhere better to call home (Learn more about our story here). We recently chatted with the girls behind the popular blog Established California¬†about their “California Faves”! Take notes, there’s a lot of great spots!

31 Bits + Established CA

Established CA CEO, Nicole Woods:

Your favorite thing to do in CA:

I love taking my dog to the beach and watching him swim, staying for sunset and wine tasting (in two different days of course!)

Your favorite place to eat in CA:

El Compadre, great atmosphere, margaritas and mexican food. And Dominick’s – their wine list is great, and their meatballs are too!

Your favorite city in CA & why:

Way too hard to answer! The perfect road trip would be San Francisco, Napa Valley, Carmel, Big Sur, Santa Barbara, San Clemente and San Diego. I think I take for granted a bit what Los Angeles offers. I guess favorite “city” would be San Francisco because there’s beaches, city, culture, great people and I love that it’s pretty much a walking city, well, compared to LA. I’ve been based in Los Angeles my whole life though and not sure I’ll ever relocate because it’s way warmer down south!

Your favorite song to blast when you’re driving down the CA coast:

Totally depends on what’s on my mind but my top five favorites on my go to playlist are Tove Lo, Vance Joy, Drake, Jay Z, and I’m not going to lie, I have a slight obsession with the new Taylor Swift album.

Editor-In-Cheif, Lindsay Vacek:

Your favorite thing to do in CA:

There’s something about being by the ocean that always makes me smile. Whether it’s hiking, or driving down the coast, a beach run or laying out lounging in the sand… I think my favorite thing to do is just be near the ocean!

Your favorite place to eat in CA:

i have dreams about the corned beef sandwiches from the Santa Anita Racetrack Clubhouse.

Your favorite city in CA & why:

For a getaway, Big Sur (peaceful, beautiful, romantic, adventurous)… To live, I’d say San Diego (I think I’ll eventually end up there) because the people are creative, laid back and friendly.

Your favorite song to blast when you’re driving down the CA coast:

Anything by Ben Howard!

Habitat & Party Editor, Megan Araujo

Your favorite thing to do in CA:

The beach. Just being near the ocean. The calmness of the waves and everything the beach has to offer is music to my soul. Or camping… That’s a pretty close second.

Your favorite place to eat in CA:

Omg, this is funny. Sam’s BBQ in San Jose. They have awesome BBQ and their BBQ sauce is a little taste of home!

Your favorite city in CA & why:

San Francisco. Everything about the San Francisco life is great. The energy, the culture, the people, the history, the views. My heart belongs to San Francisco.

Your favorite song to blast when you’re driving down the CA coast:

Anything by Journey, Then musicals, all things musical. Oh and Mariah Carey Music Box.

Beauty & Fashion Editor, Eleni Hopkins

Your favorite thing to do in CA:

I absolutely love driving along Highway One and stopping at my favorite local spot Swanton Berry Farm in Davenport.

Your favorite place to eat in CA:

Kokkari Estiatorio in the Financial District of San Francisco. It is a staple every time I return home to the Bay Area.

Your favorite city in CA & why:

My heart will always belong to San Francisco, not only because of its picturesque cityscape views but also the incredible food culture and the carefree spirit of the people.

Your favorite song to blast when you’re driving down the CA coast:

I have a soft spot for Maroon 5… windows down, music way too loud and a song like ‘Animals’ on repeat!
