Graduate Spotlight :: Laker Susan
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting photos and stories about several of the ladies that graduated from 31 Bits in June.
ALL 26 graduates have spent the last five years learning, saving, and building successful businesses of their own. They are empowered, they are respected, and they are impacting their communities in powerful ways.
Laker Susan never dreamed she would one day own a restaurant. Through the business classes and mentorships at 31 Bits, she began to save and plan for her future.
A restaurant space in town became available, and with some encouragement from her friends, she decided to go for it!
The classes at 31 Bits taught Susan basic book-keeping skills, how to manage employees, and how to invest in her restaurant wisely.
She decided to name her restaurant “31 Bits”, because “The trainings at 31 Bits have changed my life. My friends at 31 Bits encouraged and stood by me when I started the restaurant. I would not be who I am today if it wasn’t for them!”
The “31 Bits Restaurant” has been open for 6 months now, and business is thriving!
“I have 3 employees,” Susan says, “They work Monday-Saturday and I am able to pay them every week.”
Susan’s restaurant is a popular lunch spot for the staff at 31 Bits. Our Livelihoods Manager, Gladies, can’t get enough of Susan’s home cooking! When asked about her lunch, she exclaims “It is just SO delicious!” The look on her face tells it all…
We are SO proud of Susan and the hardworking business owner she is today! Now, if only she would open a 31 Bits Restaurant in California!
