You may know your 31 Bits purchases are having a big impact, but what you might not know is that your impact is reaching far beyond what happens inside the 31 Bits headquarters. Each person in our program is receiving a sustainable income and educational programs that are preparing them for their future, because we believe their future is bigger then 31 Bits.
We are ecstatic to announce that in Summer 2014, we graduated our first eight beneficiaries! Throughout the last five years, these eight women have worked diligently to support their families, receive education, and start businesses of their own. They each have a unique story of lives once characterized by poverty, but they didn’t let it define them. They recognized their skills and learned their potential. They built a community and helped each other. Their confidence, joy, and passions grew little by little, every single day. They hold their head high, they keep each other close, and they laugh all the time.
From starting a salon to a dress company, from creating a charcoal business to raising pigs, these eight women are the first to define success in our program. Their kids are in school and healthy. They have successfully saved money and started their own businesses. Some are even employing others from the community. They are confident and strong. They are happy and whole. They’ve risen above poverty and are living empowered.
So what’s next?
Every beneficiary will always be a part of the “Bits family.” Graduates can continue to come back to 31 Bits to take classes in health education and finance training. They can continue meeting with our counselor and business mentors. And whenever we throw a party, you know they’ll be the first people there! Our graduates have committed to coming back and sharing their story to encourage newer women in our program. We have a feeling the 31 Bits community is only growing bigger…
Congratulations to Aciro Florence, Aber Christine, Lakot Rose, Lamunu Agness, Agernorwot Lillian, Oyella Rose, Amenya Harriet, and Oneka “Mama” Hellen. You have changed and inspired our lives more than you’ll ever know. You’re the reason we do what we do.
We couldn’t be prouder of you.
Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we share stories about how these women are moving Beyond Bits. We’ll share the stories on our blog and social media using the hashtag #BeyondBits.
