WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Did you know that over 150 women have graduated from our program in Gulu, Uganda? (Not sure what our “program” is? Learn more here) These women are pioneers in their community, growing their own businesses and employing others along the way. We’re SO incredibly proud of all that they’ve accomplished, and are honored to play a small part in their story. We asked our staff in Gulu to share about a few of our most recent graduates, just to give you a snapshot of where these ladies are now. Enjoy!
Judith is smart and determined. While she continues to work with 31 Bits, she has already started a thriving charcoal business on the side! Judith balances both jobs well, and with her income at 31 Bits she has been able to purchase 15 bags of charcoal to sell. Her goal is to see a well-developed business for herself before she graduates from 31 Bits, and she’s on the right track! We’re so proud of her!
Through her income at 31 Bits, Grace was able to save up enough money to purchase land. There she constructed 3 huts for her and her family, and 3 more huts to rent out to her community. She has been able to farm on her property, giving her another means of income, and the ability to put two of her daughters into school (one in a teaching course, the other learning business).
As Grace says, “All of these happened because of 31 Bits. The training and encouragement I got from Bits gave me courage and strength. Bits allowed me to use the knowledge I gained during our trainings and see it as wealth, because someone can give you money, but if you don’t have knowledge on how to use that money it will go to waste. I now have two acres of land for farming.”
We believe that everything you buy can either have a positive or negative effect on the world. Thank you for purchasing from 31 Bits, and helping make these ladies’ dreams a reality. Shop some of their best-selling designs here.
