Thinking about Sustainable Living?

As our friends at The Good Trade put it, “sustainability isn’t an all or nothing game.1” We couldn’t agree more. No one can live 100% sustainable, unless they’re living off the grid and providing their own energy source… and many of us aren’t there yet! To celebrate Earth Day and kickoff Fashion Revolution Week, we’re discussing a few simple changes to increase sustainable living.

First thought, start small.

Reusable straws, bags, and containers. Our Marketing Director, Kate, recently purchased reusable straws from Amazon (for only $1 each!) and we see them in her coffee, water, morning smoothie, and basically everything she’s sipping.

Something SO easy and affordable that truly makes a difference. Kate participated in a beach clean-up last weekend, and said straws were the most picked up piece of trash!

Another easy option is thrift shopping! Our Production and Fulfillment Director, Amanda, loves to shop our local Crossroads Trading Co. for trendy recycled finds. Best part, the jeans are already worn in, so you don’t have to worry about them stretching out.

We try to remember not to get caught up in comparison when making life changes to live sustainably. There will always be people more sustainable than you, and that’s okay. Any small change can make a difference!

An article by The Minimalist Vegan shows ways to incorporate more sustainable habits in different parts of daily life. They recommend taking a minimalist approach to fashion by reducing the amount of clothes in your wardrobe to diminish stress.2

We also LOVE the capsule collections from VETTA (five pieces can create 30 outfits!) Even more, they’re committed to sustainable fabrics and responsible factories. They give deadstock – fabric saved from landfill – and give it a makeover.

Our team is obsessed with their jumpsuits. Highly recommend!

In the end, we say, don’t get caught feeling guilty for not being perfect. Sustainable living is about making changes to old habits, not completely altering your life!

There are so many ways to increase sustainable living, and we only outlined a few easy options. Comment below with how you’ve made (or plan to make!) changes to live sustainably. We love learning new tips and tricks!
